How to Verify Your Mastodon Account

Prove it's really you in 3 steps

Why Verify?

A green checkmark on your website link tells people this is your official account - not an impersonator.

Example of verified link on Mastodon Account - elbowsupgidital.ca with a green checkmark

Step 1: Get the verification code

Log into Mastodon โ†’ Preferences โ†’ Public Profile โ†’ Verification tab โ†’ Copy the HTML code

Mastodon settings page showing how to find the verification code. Step 1: Click "Public profile" in the left sidebar. Step 2: Click the "Verification" tab at the top. Step 3: Copy the HTML code shown at the bottom using the blue "Copy" button. The code contains a rel="me" link to your Mastodon profile.

Step 2: Add it to your website

Paste that code into your official website.

If you have a web team, send it to them and ask them to add it to your homepage.

Tip: To better showcase your Mastodon presence, send this icon to your web team as well!

Step 3: Add your website to your profile

Back in Mastodon's Preferences page, go to Edit Profile โ†’ Extra Fields โ†’ Type your website URL โ†’ Save

Mastodon "Extra fields" section in profile settings. A label field contains "Official Website" and the value field contains "https://mysite.ca/". This is where you add your website URL after pasting the verification code on your site.

That's it

Your website link will turn green in about 12 hours, varying depending on how busy your instance is.
