Digital Independence Day
Email Template ยท Ask an elected representative to join Mastodon
Canadians are slowly coming to realize that our online data is under the control of U.S. based technology companies. Many are adopting a European trend and recognizing the 1st Sunday of every month as Digital Independence Day. It's a day committed to taking control of our online footprint by committing to switch our applications to open source and democracy-friendly digital alternatives.
I am writing to you today to ask that you consider joining this movement and help secure our Digital sovereignty. One small step would be to establish your presence on Mastodon, a social media community that is an alternative to U.S. based tech applications. Mastodon is an open-source, non-profit social media platform. There's no algorithm pushing rage, no advertising and no data collection. Servers are managed in Canada by Canadians, meaning your data stays in our country.
This can be a simple addition to your current social media strategy that can increase your reach. Add a Mastodon social media account as one of your communication channels. You can use 3rd party tools (like Canadian based Fedica.com) to schedule and post messages across multiple social media platforms, including Mastodon.
Setting up a Mastodon account is simple. Just visit this link:

and follow the steps. Once you have registered on a server please contact me with your account information and I will assist in broadcasting your presence to Mastodon Canada. I look forward to seeing you join and participate in our community.
